Toyota Auris Hybrid Icon Plus - Insurance Group & Tyres - Plugman40

Just purchasing a 1 year old Toyota Auris Hybrid Icon Plus. One thing that puzzles me is the insurance grouping for this car is 14 but for both the Icon and the Excel its 7. Sure enough insurance quotes indicate that the Icon plus for me is about £40 to £50 more than the range topping Excel but my thoughts are why and can this be challenged?

I am thinking about getting Michelin Cross Climates or Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons for this car how does that effect the TPMS. Which tyre in your view is better.

Thanks

Where have you obtained the insurance group info from? Just looked at Parkers and their information is wrong. Think they've mixed up some of the groups and quoted those from petrol/diesel for hybrids.

For the current Auris Hybrid (facelifted in the Summer of 2015 - yours is pre-facelift), the insurance group is 12. The pre-facelift had an insurance group of 14 across the range.

Bear in mind that the insurance groups are advisory and that different insurers may rate a car differently.

Yes I did get it from parkers but I am sure that i have also seen it elsewhere and the insurance quote I got earlier seems to back up that the Icon Plus is dearer to insure than the Excel and that to me doesnt seem correct. Just looked on HJ's website and again the listing for the Excel is 7 (which seems very low and the same as the Icon) no listing at all for the Icon Plus.

My information was taken directly from a Toyota pdf.

The Icon Plus was only produced for 12 months between May 2014 and May 2015. It replaced the Sport in May 2014 and was itself replaced by the facelifted Business Edition/Design which went on sale from July 2015.

Insurance groups also take into account cost of repair.

Thanks for all the responses so far. Any views on the tyres?

Thanks

As far as I'm aware the Auris accepts two sets of TPMS readings - which enables rotation of tyres and the use of winter/summer tyres. There is an initilisation button in the glovebox that needs to be pressed three times to re-initialise the system.

I have cross-climates on my '13 plate 1.6 Excel Auris. They are everything HJ says them to be, superb wet weather grip and much lower tyre noise than the OE Dunlop SP Sports.

Great thanks for the response. Does your car have TPMS? Did it cause any issues when you changed tyres?

Not sure if it applies here, but often the insurance group falls when the higher spec models have more safety kit, such as lane keep if tech, collision avoidance systems, autonomous braking etc.

A one year old Auris wouldn't have Toyota's Safety Sense system which was introduced as an option as part of the Auris' mid life facelift in July 2015. So the safety kit on a pre-facelift Icon would be the same as the Excel.

As stated by Auristocrat there's no TPMS on a 13 plate Auris.
