Chevrolet - Chevrolet 1987 V8, idling problem - xrictodGRE

Dear all,

I am the owner of an ice resurfacer with a chevrolet v8 engine, 1987, propane fuel with an IMPCO fuel managment system. Motor starts easily but when idling turns off. It works only If i do not leave the throttle pedal, but as you realize this is useless. When I leave the pedal turns off. If the motor goes warm, motor does not turns off but the rpm's are veeeery low. Almost turns off. In that case, using the throttle pedal to raise the rpm's is not changing anything, it goes worse. Very hard to raise the rpm's. It seems I have rich mixture.

Now, there is a hose on the valves cover, if I unplug it works better and raises the rpm's as it suck air from outside. Like a vacuum. I can throttle and the idling is good -higher rpm's than normal. If I use my finger and reduce the air, it turns the engine off again..

As I can't drive the ice resurfacer to an engineer, I ask you for any advice

Contact in case you need more info

Thank you and sorry for my english terminology

Christo

Okay,

rich mixture,

a place to start,

so remove the spark plugs and KEEP THEM IN ORDER!

at least one will be black on the firing tip,

So if your right and the mixture is too rich then it's either the plug/wires at fault,

if so swap the ignition lead/plug cap and plug from another cylinder.

your trying to see if you can move the fault to another cylinder.

If this does nothing to affect it move the injector fom the black plug cylinder to another cylinder.

As stated what yoyr trying to do is move the fault to another cylinder.

Or the real bad news would be that nothing you do will move the fault or change the running,

if so the the chances are there's a fault with the compression on the faulty cylinder.

compression test all of them.
