Brand spanking new, or perhaps a 3 to 4 month old "rejected" model, as it seems like quite an appropriate time to drive a hard bargain.

PS

Honda and Toyoya salespersons were in a very bouyant upbeat mood this afternoon, per the Toyota guy, he had customers coming direct from the VW Showroom, having rejected their virtually new (as in under 6 month) VW'S for a full refund.

I suspect VW will be offering some quite attractive extended warranties/free 5 years servicing etc etc, basically whatever it takes to stop customers rejecting their cars as being "mis-sold".

Would be interesting to see on what grounds people are rejecting their cars. Do bear in mind that the USA tests are VERY different to the EU tests.

Just because someone tells VAG they want out, doesn't mean they'll get out. They do have to show good reason for their rejection.

I don't believe that for a minute.

More like he had a meeting with his Sales Manager, who told him this was this month's sales strategy.

Hmmm what if VW are compelled to make any already sold cars affected compliant with the standards by running proper tests and reprogramming them to render them legal? You might then buy a car that can no longer give the sort of performance you have come to expect. If the figures quoted in the press for the extent to which the cars are non-compliant may well be considerable and there might be a very noticeable effect on performance if they are put right. On the other hand there may be a fudge if it's too big an issue to fix properly (especially if other manufacturers are also found to be fiddling the tests too) so anyone buying a rejected VAG Diesel might get a bargain but it seems an expensive gamble to me.
