Does my car need a timing belt change?

My lady friend has a 2018 Honda Civic. At a recent service she was warned the timing BELT would need changing as it was 6 years old. Looking on line, it says all Honda Civic models from 2006 are fitted with chains, and do not require replacement. Is she being ripped off?

The 1.0-litre VTEC petrol fitted to the 2017-2021 generation Honda Civic is fitted with a timing belt, so this would require replacement at some point. Even engines that are fitted with timing chains may have auxiliary belts that require changing, so we would suggest clarifying with the garage as to the exact nature of the recommended work.

Our 2012 BMW F25 X3 is almost a year old. The on-screen computer recommends the next service in 11 months, the car having covered 5600 miles from new, and we have the 5-year service pack. I am not happy...
