Peugeot 206 - Oil temperature - dazsaw
Good evening

I have swapped my engine in a y reg 206 gti today as cam belt snapped all went well until I went to run it up and the oil temperature slowly went up to the red when it then said stop on dash board this happened before the fan had cut in for the rads any help or ideas would be much appreciated

I'm not sure the rad is hot and all water pipes however it seems to boil the water out the top of bottle

Water is warm on all water pipes engine is second hand but came from my work fully tested with a warranty think I'll drain out the coolant and start again tryin to remove any air fingers crossed this will sort it

Are you sure you are reading the correct gauge?These have both an engine coolant temp and oil temp gauge.

Water is saying it's cold get its boiling in the bottle and the oil is in the red

Perhaps the water pump is not doing its job.Is there any return flow back to the expansion bottle?

You still have the old engine?

Take out the coolant temperature sensor and swap it to the new engine,

you know the old one worked and removing the sensor from the replacement engine will help if the housing is air locked.

If its boiling and the sensor says it cold I would suspect that there is no water in where the sensor is, I would firstly suspect air in the system - or, the head gasket is leaking and the pressure is blowing the water out.

You need to bleed the water system after the engine has started by compressing the lower hose by hand and letting go .. and repeating several times. Ditto with the top hose.

If you don't you WILL get airlocks..and overheating.

(Take care when doing it - heat and moving pulleys/belts).

Tried everything now swapped the sensors from old engine to new one heater is blowing hot water comin from all bleed points oil temperature is normal now yet water is still boiling in bottle before the fan cuts in checked oil now sign of water in there

I wonder if the 206 is like the 306 when you refill the system? From memory, the filler cap is lower than part of the system so to refill and bleed you have to extend the filler bottle with another bottle to make it taller and keep the extension bottle full as you bleed the system.

An update - I have bridged the switch for rad so it is running all time and got all the air out and everything is fine oil temp is low water not boiling so I need this switch or whatever is reading the water temp
