Vauxhall Corsa D 2012 - I slammed on the brakes to a complete stop due to - BrianJ1092

I was coming up to a set of traffic lights between 20-30mph and there was a traffic camera. I wasn't close to the line nor far behind and when it changed I slammed on the brakes hard to a complete stop.

Did I ruin the brakes by slamming to a complete halt?

Oh no! the brake pads will be fine once replaced, but more worrying the tyres wheels springs and dampers are now scrap and, God willing, you shouldn't drive ever again.

Don't forget the damage to the chassis, it probably twisted due to the forces involved

This only goes to show that if you drive and play with youself at the same time things can go wrong.

Hi, The chances are you have done no damage to your brakes - they are doing exactly what they are designed to do.

If the car drives and stops ok then you should have no problems.

Assuming this is not a New Years wind up by the owner of a Fiesta using a different name here is my opinion.

You used the brakes to stop the car, its what they are designed to do.

In an emergency you do an emergency stop, its what the brakes are designed to do.

But what worries me is the fact you appear to be saying you only did the emergency stop because you saw a camera. If it had not been there would you have run a red light?
