I have been looking at buying a diesel Nissan Note. I was looking at one today that was 1 year old, and took it for a test drive.

I noticed it was quite a smelly car outside with the engine running. It smelled strongly of diesel exhaust when I was swapping places with the salesman, and back at the garage when the engine was running.

I have never owned a diesel car, so I was wondering if this is normal? Does it happen if the car has been stood for a while? (at a garage forecourt for example) Or is it a bad sign?
