Vauxhall, Ford, VW etc - Fault code reader-recommendation? - brucewayne

Hi everybody.

Can anyone out there recommend an inexpensive (under £80?) fault code reader that will work on most popular makes and models?

Thanks in advance.

The only one I'd recommend is the Launch Creader 6 but, It still is only a generic fault code reader and it won't do anything other than engine systems. There is no guarantee that it will work with certain vehicles.

Have a look on ebay for a cheap one.

Thanks for the reply, that reader looks pretty good for the money.

I can recommend..tinyurl.com/cos9sty

I bought from T Mart.. very good service and 60% of UK price.

Easy to use... no need for a list of codes.. tells you (in English) what is wrong..

Looks worth considering too, lots of good reviews.

Thanks.

I got an Autel maxiscan ms309 off ebay for eleven quid. Good enough to tell me my Nissan's crankshaft position sensor had gone u/s. Also turned off an EML on a Mondeo once the fault was cleared.

I have Torque downloaded onto my [Android] phone. The pro version is 3 quid and you'll need a blutooth OBD adaptor (mine was £17). It can read and clear ETCs and you can also use it to observe live data and so much more. Have a look on the Play Store. I've used it to read and clear codes on several cars. Very useful for the money.
