Honda 2013 CRV vtec 2.0 - Camshaft drive method - camcam

Is the camshaft driven by chain or belt?

AFAIK they are all chain driven....

thanks, after I worked out your 'afaik' (I'm not a frequent forum user!) ,you are correct, it's been so since 2006 according to HJ. I just bought a CRV and forgot to ask the dealer!

Sorry, it means as far as I know.

Cam chain 100%. Failure can be caused by lack of regular oil changes.

And if it comes up with cam/crank synk codes then the chain is shot, won't start usually. And if you can get the timing chain cover off to check the maximum protrusion on the cam chain tensioner is 16mm. Had one in last week with a protrusion of 22mm,

neeles to say it wouldn't run.

Oh and it was an 02, as far as I'm aware 02 on, i.e mark II 's were all cam chain.

Sorry H/J.

Yes I had a 2002 petrol VTEC, CRVII. Honda described the engine as having a "quiet chain" camshaft drive. Sounded a bit euphemistic to me - marketing speak for a belt! Not serious of course, but I did wonder if it was one of those "toothed chains" rather than a proper roller chain?
