Volkswagen Golf 1.4tsi DSG - Economy Mode on Golf - Cardew

Just bought a new model Golf DSG - the 122bhp version.

I have been trying to work out if there are any significant fuel savings between the 3 modes(economy, normal, sport) and also having the stop/start function enabled.

I now now longer do the same regular journeys of a significant length for 'back to back' comparison purposes, but with the limited experiments I have tried there seems to be virtually no difference in fuel consumption between 'economy' and 'normal'. However the difference in performance is really marked; even my wife commented how much better it felt.

My query is has anyone carried out any tests? - or are aware of published data.

Incidentally the car is as nice as every road test/review I have read. However the instruction manuals are a nightmare to wade through. Over 500 pages covering every model and every gizmo available. The hundreds of 'Warnings' are often amusing. On changing the battery in the key fob it states:

DANGER

Swallowing batteries with a diameter of 20mm or other lithium batteries can result in severe or even fatal injuries within a very short period of time.

Stop start is more useful at getting the CO2 figure down rather than saving lots of fuel. Its a classic case of how technology has been used to get favourable results in a test.

Has the use of mineral oil completely sorted out the problems with this gearbox? Have there been any failure reports in relation to gearboxes filled with mineral oil?

It's not been that long since VAG started to fix this problem. I'd suggest another year (or maybe 2) before any other problems start to crop up in sufficient numbers to know whethet it's all sorted or not
