When I first met my GF I had a Beachcomber, A962CPE, and I guess it's landfill now because the reg isn't on webuyanycar.

For romantic reasons we would like a 2CV, colour not important, but they seem to have well UND truly reached classic status, looking at the prices. However in Europe they are everywhere, is there an imbalance in the market waiting to be taken advantage of? Forgive me as I could have done my own research. BUT I HAVEN'T.

Classic status seems to apply across Europe. Last year in Provence we crossed paths with traffic bound for a 'Tin Snail' rally in Spain. Loads of standard 2CV as well as Dyane, Ami and other car/commercial derivatives. We spoke to one group who'd come from Finland - ferry to Germany then driven.

Supply/demand and exchange rates may well make foreign cheaper though.

I'm sure 2CV clubs wil be able to advise on practicalities of importing and (I think this is possible) converting to RHD.

Thanks Brompt. I'm happy with LHD though. My theory is, I was happy with RHD in Europe, so vice versa will apply.

They restored one on Discovery's Wheeler Dealers a few weeks ago. I was shocked at how much it cost these days. But, I suppose its the same with classic Minis I suppose

According to the DVLA site that car was registered on 11 August 1983, and whoever owned it in June 2008 didn't bother to renew the licence. It did pretty well lasting almost 25 years - you must have looked after it? - though I suppose it could have been SORNed for a long time.

Wow thanks Andrew, I paid about £1300 for it in 1988 and sold it in 91. I would love to get it back. But don't tell the new owner!!!

They aren't cheap in France any more. The local 'classic' car dealer near me has two at the moment, both 7k euros plus. Meharis make really mad money.

I don't think there will be 'an owner', it will have been crushed as you suppose. AFAIK the DVLA only deletes cars if they are 'officially' destroyed, as in that scrappage scheme - or if they assume a new identity (cherished plate) of course. Lots of vehicles stay on their database for years after they have disappeared. Most of the 205s I have owned show in that way, tho I know they no longer exist.

A reasonable 2CV in France will be about €5000.

LeBonCoin always has a selection.

Dyanes are a little less, Meharis are much much more. You don't actually see that many of any of these on the roads.
