Toyota Carina E (1992) - Toyota Carina E - the brake pedal mystery - gregray

Hello Backroomers. I have a 1992 Carina E 2.0i petrol vehicle, and I note that when I have the front headlights turned off and press the brake pedal, the front light turns on (to dipped beam). With the lights are turned on, this does not happen. What may be the cause of this fault. In light of the heavy rain, I would consider this may have had an impact.

Thank you for any suggestions or thoughts concerning this problem.

I'd be looking for a dodgy earth connection, probably at the brake lights.

Have you recently had a brake lamp replaced?

Strange things can happen if the twin filament type are fitted the wrong way round.

With mine, if everything is turned off, the brake lights come on when the brake pedal is pressed.

My lights don't come on, so I would suggest it's not meant to happen.
