Vauxhall Corsa 2010 - Oil Light - 1234dave

I have a 2010 1.4 Automatic Corsa. When I turn on the ignition, the oil light comes on for a few second and then goes out BEFORE I start the engine. Is this Correct? Dealer says it is. I am not so sure!

Are you sure it's the oil light and not for the air bags or ABS?

Yes, it is definately the oil light.

The pressure switch is working ok, tested it this afternoon., engine off - connects to chassis, engine running - open circuit, but light still goes off before engine running! I suspect a bad connection somewhere, but vx garage I got it from say it is ok! I somehow doubt this.

I would say the the operation of the oil light is correct. Many new models have an oil light that works like this. The function of the light is not like older cars.On the Corsa, the light is controlled by the engine management system. There is no direct connection to the instrument pod.hth

Thanks for the reply, in that case I have nothing to worry about. I am obviously out of date here!

Having said that though, Why does the light not turn on when I disconnect the plug from the pressure switch? ie, simulating low or no oil pressure.

Cos it works the other way round. With no oil pressure the circuit/wire is grounded to earth.hth
