Vauxhall Combo Life - Vauxhall Combo 1.2L - powerful enough? - BrumK

Hi

Thinking about getting a vauxhall combo XL 1.2L 130BHP

Has anyone got experience with this vehicle?

Specific concern being, is the 1.2L powerful enough? We have 3 kids

Main use is getting to work (solo) roughly 5 mile away - fine for that

But what about driving on holiday, fully laden? How abut with 4 adults and 3 kids in it? Will it make it up a hill??

Yet to test drive...

Cheers!!

No reason it would struggle too much - had the 1.5l diesel version which has the same BHP and that seemed to be fine. 7 seaters like the Dacia Jogger manage with a 1.0l. It won't be the fastest in the world though but it was a very good car for the nearly 4 years we had it..

It will be fine. Not fast, but certainly able to cope.

However, you will probably hear all sorts of horror stories about the 1.2 Puretech engine. Do your research before committing. And I don't mean Google 'puretech problems', I mean get into Stellantis owners forums and find out the detail. You will get two completely opposing views here and be none the wiser.

Whether or not the Combo Life XL is powerful enough is going to depend on what you want, expect, and are used to. So there is only one person who can answer the question (after a test drive)

I'd be happy enough with it though.

Too many cases of failures with this engine to recommend one as a used purchase, wet belt designs are notoriously fragile no matter who builds them. But if you’re buying or leasing new and getting shot of it before the warranty is up then there’s no real risk. As for performance, the 130PS motor goes very well and should be perfectly capable. If you’re buying a nearly new dealer approved example then factor in the cost of a manufacturer backed extended warranty into the equation and the cost of main dealer servicing to make sure said warranty remains valid and any recalls are caught.
