Just looking for some advice, passenger interior mirror light was left on for approx 3 hours. Car started fine, then drove home on the motorway for 40 mins.

Almost home, the battery light came on. Newish battery (September 22).

What are peoples thoughts on cause? New alternator maybe?

Have MOT in a week, Is it OK to drive until then or am I going to be stranded somewhere?

Stick a meter on the battery to check the voltage if you have any doubts, but the battery light normally indicates a charging problem (I.e. probably alternator) rather than a battery problem. Unlikely that the mirror light has anything to do with it.

Have ordered a meter for collection tomorrow

How long are alternators meant to last? This one I'd say is no more than 2/3 years old ?

Ford smart charge alternators can be very hit or miss if they are not a genuine product. My sons focus had a recon unit from a motor factor and it lasted 3years. Check charge voltage with your meter . Needs to be over 14 volts , engine running.
