After any advice or recommendations if anyone can help. Son has finally finished completing all modifications/upgrades to his car and after doing the usual rounds of comparison sites not many results are coming back from them and when they do majority are still coming back with black box insurance over £2500!!

He's 25, full-time plant fitter for a plant manufacturer, lives at home with us, no dependants, has 1 claim from Jan 2019 (Arson so went fault) 4yrs no claims and now expired points from October 2018 and Feb 2019.

I've tried tweaking adding both me and his dad as named drivers, just me, just his dad, on his own, reducing/increasing excess and it makes next to no difference in price. He has his own Fully comp policy on my car as he uses mine for work so is only for social/domestic for his. (His original cover was taken out when he was 24 with Hastings and doesn't allow him to drive other cars)

Any recommendations to try?

TIA

Maybe try the GTI owners club? Lots of clubs do insurance discounts when a car is modded

Gasp £50 per week. Is it really worth paying such a premium just to go a wee bit faster or your car to look perhaps more aggressive. Age 25 you would think that a more affordable policy was possible but probably not today. He will have to pay, but most would think the standard car to be quick enough. It seems to me that a lot of younger drivers are drawn to Hastings but from my experience if they have to pay a claim then they are not very good. Probably needs a specialist broker for such a car

Go to a broker.

An old story but still relevant.

A son had a Volvo 480 5/6 year old - quite nippy for the time in the mid 90s.

He bought a Honda Prelude, 3 year old with 9,000 miles on the clock - it had been a weekend car, (owner lived in very posh neighbourhood, so believable) and was trying to changing car on his insurance.

The insurer Norwich Union, said they could not cover the Prelude for such a young driver Company Policy for young drivers - 24 year old at the time.

I suggested a Broker and through a local insurance broker he got cover for the Prelude for less than the Volvo 480. Admittedly only around £10 / year less.

The company was Norwich Union - apparently Direct Insurance Division had their rules & regs BUT Norwich Union Broker only Policies went be a different set of rules!

Agree with others about a broker. The main market insurers like Admiral, Direct Line etc can be very fussy about modifications. One, Admiral I think, wouldn't quote for my 205 GRD because one of the previous owners had replaced the original steering wheel with one form a 205 GTi.
