Pot Holes - sammy1

The AA have stated that they were called to 1900 pot hole incidents a DAY during March. The effects of this last winter on our roads are everywhere and particularly dangerous on our motorways and other fast roads. The holes are often difficult to see and avoid especially in the dark. In some cases whole strips of the top surface of the roads are missing. Besides the cars needing roadside assistance because of damage there must be plenty of other cars running with damage tyres and suspensions. Weeks of delays in repairing our roads only causes more damage to motorists cars. and just another symptom of our declining country.

Essex Highways are doing a "managed decline " in maintaining roads, but, surprise surprise, we had our pavements re-tarmaced last year, and 4 nice big potholes in Mill road by the school and doctors surgery repaired.

Wonders never cease.

I suspect that a local councillor (and of the lot in charge) lives nearby or has an election coming up so need to give residents a reason to vote for them and not the other lot.

Happens my way a lot - amazingly also how certain (side) road get the nice proper tarmac on the resurfacing (including pavements) and more often and others get that horrible crinkley black marzipan type stuff or 'sticky' grit cheapo repairs that aren't smooth and often result in quickly broken edges which go down (and block) the gulleys.

One broken gulley in my town apparently only got fixed (it was essentially a big hole in the road) - thanks to publicity from the local rag - when a small child fell into it when the drain below got blocked and they thought it was a puddle to splash in.

Local politics is, in my view, just as corrupt and self-serving as at national level. It's just a matter of scale.

Report a pothole, council reply with "we're really busy we will get to this within 6-8 weeks"

Contact the council and say you've had damage and will be seeking compensation - they've got someone out filling it in within 24 hours.

No need to go to a pay and play off road site, if you want to put your 4x4 through its off road paces just drive through the lorry park at Leicester Forester Southbound.

Its been some 2 years since i braved the place, never again, went in thismorning for nature call, you could get a truck stuck in some of the holes, was concerned because my combined fuel and hydraulic oil tank is only about 8" from the ground n/s so had to ensure it was the offside which went into the worse craters when avoidance not possible.

Thankfully we're on proper tyres and wheels on both cars, daughter's chap bent 2 X 18 or 19" wheels on the road a couple of weeks ago in a pot hole hidden by the rain, thankfully a specialist was able to straighten them saving him some £900, tyres were ok, bit of game when you actually need a proper 4x4 just to go to work or the shops...£1000 to tax both cars this year wonder if Matt spent that on Midazolam.

I reported several potholes nearby on Monday, they've all been repaired today. I did have to jump through hoops on the council reporting system.
