Hi,

My friend thought he was helping me out which I appreciate and recently installed a new coil spring on the front passenger side of my car. The next day I noticed a knocking noise when turn the steering wheel.

Does the spring need time to settle? It looks to be aligned, but I am no mechanic.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Do you get the knocking noise whilst the car is parked up? If so, I'd suggest getting someone to turn the wheel whilst you look and listen. If you can't spot it, you could try taking the wheel off and trying again.

The spring shouldn't need time to settle. It sounds like your friend has disconnected something whilst getting the spring in there and hasn't put it back properly.

Did you check the length of the old spring against the new one ? Has the spring been seated correctly in the cup on the strut ? Did you renew the strut top mount ?

The spring was broken so could not check length of spring. It looks to be well seated in the bottom cup but not sure about the top. I will check again tomorrow.

The noise happens when doing a 3 point turn more then driving in a straight line.
