Private seller but still not transferre to his nam - Warning

I contacted a private seller. I asked if the car was registered in his name and he said No. he said no. He said he bought it at auction and had not sent off the paperwork to the DVLA.

So it was still not registered to him. However, he said he did n't want to, as he was going to sell it.

He mentioned some family tragedy, so I don't know if this is connected.

The car has been sitting on their drive way and uninsured.

The car is 33,000 miles and 2016 model. It passes the autotrader basic 5 check (although for car dealers seem to have more checks).

Ask to see the auction sales paperwork and see what reply you get.

It’s often said on here that auctions are not viable for private buyers anymore. So he’s either a trader or a private buyer who has paid over the odds when fees etc are included.

I know the V5 is not 100% guarantee of ownership but how is he proposing to show ownership without one. Auction paperwork protects him against against the car being stolen or whatever but, as you are not the client of the auction, you would still be liable for something untoward. So you would be putting a lot of trust in some random bloke trying to shift a car.

i suggest you heed your own name and walk away. You do seem to be very unlucky in trying to buy a car if this the same quest that’s been going on for some time. Your luck must change soon.

Sounds like a car crash waiting to happen. Almost in tears over the family tragedy.

That doesn't sound to me like the actions of a private seller - quite the opposite. Ask when he bought the last car at auction ?
