Kia will allow 1 month and 1000 miles so call KIA customer services to get it booked in.

The dealer told us that when we had the Ceed but he also added it was not in writing anywhere. Be late by one day or one mile and they could refuse a warranty repair.

On the other had Skoda clearly state the 1 month, 1000 mile extension in the warranty T & C's. But some have been caught out doing this 2 years is succession and had warranty repairs refused just before the warranty expires. Basically you can go to 13 months, 11,000 miles after registration but not 26 months 22,000 miles i.e another 13 months 11,000 miles.. The max allowance for the second service is 25 months, 21,000 miles.

Best we had was with the Seat, dealer tried to tell us service was due 12 months after manufacture. Our Leon was made in February and was registered / delivered in June. He tried to insist we had it serviced when it was only 8 months old. Seat customer services sorted the dealer out and we got a nice bit of compensation for his lies. We had it serviced by another Seat dealer in June.

I had that recently with our latest i10.

I bought nearly new (from a Hyundai dealership) early last Nov. It had been registered early Oct by them and only driven 45-miles. They contacted me in June this year to say the 1st service was due around then. I referred them to the V5 registration date and suggested they amended their data and contact me in October. They contacted me early September, but I held out until last week having calculated the date when the dashboard display would show only 1-day remaining before service due!

Gotta watch these authorised franchises... :–)

One has to be careful if buying a pre-reg. The clock starts ticking at registration.

We bought a pre-reg last year, which was also a demo.. The service would have been due 3 months after purchase, so we said service it, but the salesman said we'll do it at 12 months for you. Put it in writing on the sales invoice. Or discount the 1st service cost.

Ours was not a pre-reg, it had simply been on the forecourt unsold.

When we got the wifes uncle the Celerio 3 years ago it was a pre-reg, registered December 2018 he bought it August 2019. The 1st service was due in 4 months, I asked them to include it in the deal, they did that with no quibble.

By not having yours serviced until 12 months after you bought it the car was by then 21 months old and had missed a service by 9 months. By doing that you have lost the warranty, no chance of any claim from the manufacturer. They give 1 month, 1000 miles max and not all do that.

Keep you fingers crossed the car has no issues. Any money you saved would likely be lost.

It was serviced 12 months from the date of registration,as my post. the dealer did what they said they would.

Not clear in your post, you simply said

"but the salesman said we'll do it at 12 months for you"

Could have been 12 months from sale or 12 months from registration, I assumed since you were buying the car it was 12 months from sale.

Yes the salesman said at 12 months, not IN 12 months.

Clear enough to me.

Thanks for the nitpicking.

Almost without exception, had I booked an appointment 8 months ahead of time, I would have confirmed a couple of weeks before it was scheduled.

Although not the fault of the OP that the garage was not expecting him, it would have been easy to make sure things ran more smoothly with far less opportunity for error or cock up.
