Hi

I was looking at used BMW X1 and found few cars at different dealers miles apart having advert pics taken with same background and style.

Just getting suspicious if these are any auction site pics dealers bough the cars from and whether the car will have any damage history. These are all under 3 year old car so no MOT/DVLA History

Franchised dealers often bid for ex-management cars and ex-rental cars based on photographs and detailed description, and then advertise it before they physically receive it - I sourced a Hyundai i30 for my daughter-in-law from Hyundai's Approved Car Scheme and was at the dealer when it was delivered on a transporter, so both I and the dealer only saw the car for the first time then - it was an excellent purchase as she still has it after 8 years.

Not that unusual for a stock or library image to be used, but I would expect some mention of it in the advert and/or description.

I looked on the central BMW site. These are images of the actual cars on sale and many share that background. I assume these are the cars that BMW have put through their central system before them sending to dealers. It’s probably a positive sign in that they will presumably meet a common standard of prep rather than being left to the dealer discretion.
The BMW logo on each picture would also suggest they are not auction house pictures.

The background, and probably ground the car is ‘standing’ on, is applied digitally. It’s most obvious on the third image, where the car doesn’t ‘sit’ properly.
The BMW logo, therefore has the ability to be changed to whatever the photographer chooses.

Well spotted re the digital point. It’s still not anything to be suspicious of though, is it?

There have been previous scams where legit pictures have been lifted and cars offered via online ads at very low prices. That’s not the case here.

The ground is original - it is a "turntable" photo booth.

They might be from auction -although I don't recognise the background option. If these are BMW approved cars they will be legit.

Nearly all BMW approved used to come from auction as all the PCP ends from BMW finance went through Manheim where BMW dealers could bid on "retail ready" cars. I don't know if they still do.

Anyway, don't worry where it has come from, judge the car.

Thanks all for the info.
