Vauxhall Corsa - Bought a used car and had it delivered. - fendertele

Hi,

I bought a used 2014 Vauxhall Corsa and had it delivered due to the distance of the dealer. I took the punt based on a perfect MOT history, no serious advisories and no registered accidents with the vehicle.

However upon delivery I noticed a few things off with the steering.

Firstly the steering wheel must be held way way to the right to drive straight and even then I still have to adjust more to the right to keep it going in a straight line. Along with this It has bump steer in both directions but more to the left and also when I brake hard I can also feel it wanting to pull to the left ever so slightly.

I know I was silly for buying without trying but did seem like a well maintained/looked after car on paper.

I'm guessing the first thing I should be doing is getting it checked on a 4 wheel alignment however I dont have the cash spare at the moment and will need to wait a week to get paid but I'm concerned that waiting this long will cause me issues If i needed to take it back to the dealer as they might then try to pin it on me where as having it checked the next day after being delivered would be a lot harder to argue against the issue being present on delivery.

I also have a 1 month warranty with them but im new to buying used cars so not sure where i stand with a geometry issue.

Thanks for any advice. here is the mot printout.

By all means get it checked out but don’t have anyone do any work on it or you will muddy the waters. The selling dealer could claim that the car has been damaged by anyone who tries to fix it. Your contract is with the dealer who sold it to you and you have legal rights in that respect. This has been covered many times in this site.

The one month warranty is irrelevant. These warranties are worthless and in any case will not cover pre-existing faults.

You need to contact the seller. Unfortunately if they are willing to sell an obviously faulty car you may well not have an easy job to get it fixed. It’s one thing having right but another to enforce them.

Good luck.

I'm afraid this link won't work for me. If the car has a recent MoT it should be OK to drive - if the MoT is months old there may have been a botched accident repair. A normal steering wheel can be slightly off-centre, but yours sounds like bad news.

You could get the car checked, but I think you should waste no time and reject the car, ask the seller to reclaim it and give you a full refund. Unless he is able to give a satisfactory explanation for its behaviour. Can you stop the payment ?

Sadly I suspect you may find this doesn't work, and you are a cowboy's victim. Remote buying of middle-aged cars unseen can be risky.

Firstly , I would check your tyre pressures. Any discrepancy here can cause the car to pull . If this checks out ok , then I think you need to reject the car . This is covered by CRA , consumers right to reject within 30 days . I would think you can also be helped by the distance selling regulations .

Assuming you didn't visit the sellers premises at any time during the purchase process then you are covered by Distance Selling Regulations and have 14 days to reject the car.
