Most of these so called extended warranties aren't worth the paper they are printed on, I'm afraid.
The are offered to buyers of used cars as a form of reassurance but, in practice, they are mostly useless if anything should go wrong outside the 6 month period.
The only car warranties that are generally worth anything at all are those backed by the major motor manufacturers but, even then, there will be limits on what can be claimed for.
Many after market warranties are pointed and worthless when it comes to big claim for a major item as they have limitations, like £1000 parts and labour which covers nothing on a modern car, less so on a 4x4. You may as well drop your money down the drain. Plus the warranty backer will look for any escape clause.
When the garage tries to sell you such warranty, do you see the booklet with all the T&Cs, do you have time to read it? Unlikely. And yes, manufacturer-backed warranties, like BMW has a limit on the price paid for the car. I've had experience of BMW/Mini warranty claims - funnily for a diff on a 9month old X3 - and it was an unbelievable no hassle experience.
Also worth pointing out some BMW X series cars have different sized front and rear tyres, so you cannot swap them around. No, I dont know how the diff works it out either.
