My taxi aquaintance has swopped his MG ZS suv taxi for an MG5 electric estate.

Only real problems for him were 4 wheel bearings and otherwise "consumables"

will update as he lets me know how it's going, but not sure how he'll cope for longer journeys

Is the Mg ev Estate your pal has a pale metallic blue? I ask because I was behind a taxi one around the Knowledge gateway area the other day. Boy did it shift. TBH I'd have been more impressed if it hadn't been undertaking and driven like it had been stolen. But still very swift indeed, I wonder what range you get in real life driving that way.

I’m curious what the mileage was on the ZS, 4 wheel bearings is not that bad probably! I wonder who the oem is on those.. probably not timken?

MG ZS 2018 - Seen one on Taxi Plates - oldroverboy.

Saw the MG ZS taxi again, 4 new wheel bearings recently and dealer replaced the infotainment system that they damaged while it was in for a service.

=============================

EDIT...He won't use them again... He has done, got the MG5 elecy taxi now.

--------------------------------------------------------

He is off to get 4 new tyres later today.

Now 70,000 miles, otherwise no problems.

=====================

Wheel bearings GM running gear from Vauxhall Mokka made in China..

I think he got about 100000 miles in 3 years before changing, will ask him.

Ethan, that's the one.

Driving wise, what do you expect?

Quite a few MG5 taxi's in my neck of the wood. While it may be styled like an estate, the boot isn't actually that big at 479 litres.

Scotland May 2021 and our first trip to the lodge in Scotland in the Superb PHEV. No need to charge it but "Charge Places Scotland" app shows a reasonable number locally some of which (at that time) were free.

We arrived on Saturday and by the following Friday had not found a working charger at a location we normally visit. There were some available at the station in town when we walked past but no idea if they were actually working.

Friday afternoon went to a restaurant where the app showed 3 free chargers with 2 available. When we got there there was a MG5 estate at the first one so we parked next to it and plugged in and asked the app to connect us. No worky. Then the chap came out to the MG which had apparently stopped charging (his app alerted him) and he was pretty angry asking what I had done. Simply told him I had plugged in and asked it to charge. He got his charging again and I gave up. After he calmed down he said the range was only 140 miles and with few working chargers locally (our experience) he needed to get some charge in to get him to Perth 70 or so miles away. He had found most local chargers out of order (including the one at their hotel. At the 3.5 kw rate it was going to take about 5 hours at least so he would be spending a fortune in the cafe waiting.

Basic advice was "do not buy a MG5", he was regretting it big time.

In the 3 subsequent visits to the area we actually managed to put about 10 miles into the Superb once but when we wanted to leave the cable would not disconnect. Site owner was aware of what you needed to do but another problem people do not need. Off to Scotland in 2 weeks, won't be charging at all.

The local private hire taxi firms that had a job lot of Dacia Logan MCVs have moved over to MG 5 electric estates.

They are not that big in the back for passengers, but the drivers seem to like them.

I didn’t think it was anything special as a passenger.

I'm sorry ORB but your posts make little sense if I'm honest....really don't understand the point your trying to make ( been a long tough week so it's probably me!)

Paul,

Points were (in no particular order..)

Mate had MGZS suv taxi 100.000 miles with servicing 4 wheel bearings and infotainment system dealer damaged and replaced.

Replaced that with MG6 EV, after nearly 2 years not very happy about range, (I suspect that the local dealer has some sort of arrangement with him.) cramped in back as others have said.

Youngrovergirl used him to get to a clinic this morning and I asked for his updated opinion.

It's a comment,and a debate.

If you want to read more of the horror stories about the EV Mg cars got to the MG-Rover.org forum, which I still follow.

There are many satisfied users, but also a section which could be called software problems are us, Non functioning DAB radios delivered without the necessary kit.

MG seem to have a deal with one or more of the specialist taxi leasing firms.

Loads of ex taxi often under 2 years old MG5s seem to be showing up at auctions. They're probably not bad value to buy but equally don't do the residuals any favours.

71 plate examples with 60k ish seem to get about £13k which is a lot of car for the money compared to new.

It'll be interesting to see how the MG4 holds it's price. They're still selling them with £17k or thereabouts retained value on PCP after 3 years. I'd be surprised if that happens as you can already buy a 6 month old one on auto trader with under 10k miles for £22500.
