We’ve had one in the family - the oil pump drive chain broke, lunching the motor. I’ve no information as to whether that’s a regular occurrence or not, but it happened on this one.

A customer of mine got one of those 3.2 Ranger's, kept it for less than a year. Didn't ask if there was a problem or problems with it, but they had a VW Transporter crew cab van before that for 3 years or so, and they have gone back to the same again now.

While I have been interested in previous Ranger's, as with most of their type, current versions just far too big for my work needs. In fact, imo, just far too big full stop. Might work OK in the USA, but in this country they are just a menace, in car parks and on narrow country roads.

Although IIRC his view is that you just follow the direction, and if you dont its your own fault.

Which is disappointingly un-Australian, somehow,

Thanks for all the input so far. So you can trash the engine just by changing the oil too slowly - ouch. i was interested as it is more than 4 cylinders (don't think there is anything else?) and available in manual (Not the TOTR Widtrack). Would be for towing a boat, lugging tools araound, longer journeys mostly 100 miles.

If I needed a reliable working pickup capable of towing a boat the only thing I'd be looking at is the Hilux. The 2.8 4 (cyl) turbo diesel in the current version makes the same power as the 3.2 in the Ranger (200bhp) and even the older 3.0 makes 170bhp, which really isn't that much less.
