Hi , I’m asking for opinions on 2 cars I’m thinking about purchasing, one or the other , , I’m now 54 yrs old and want some advice/opinions. Spending around £25000
I’ve got a Mercedes c250 sport , which looks like a c63 .
So I’ve always admired the c63 upto year 2014 . the power and noise it makes . If I were to pick this car ,I would run it as my everyday car , I do less than 5000 miles a year .
Or option 2 , which is a porsche 911 , 997 . A 2005/2006 model .
I’ve never owned a Porsche and would like to do so before I get to old ??
I would be running this as a Saturday/Sunday car , days out etc .
My questions are which option would you guys recommend, also which car do you think will depiciate the least .I know these cars are expensive, and I’m now fortunate enough to consider buying one

I'm curious as to why of your two choices, the Merc would be an everyday car but the Porsche would be a weekend car?. Surely they both need to fulfil the same role?.
As to the cars, out of those two it would probably be the Porsche for me. Though were the Merc a de-badged estate, I might find myself choosing that instead!.

Porsche all day long, particularly on depreciation. If you're really lucky and don't use it much it might not depreciate at all.

The key thing with either of those two (with the Merc being the C63) is going to be the location of a well respected independent specialist for servicing. So your decision should at least partly be based on this.

Never looked at it like that, but your right , I’m going to have to do some work to find garages that can service both the c63 , and Porsche.

If i got the Porsche, I would keep my c250 as my regular car ,I need a saloon for every day if I bought the c63 I could run it as a every day car , especially if I got a 14 plate . Wouldn’t be to worried about bills .

Porsche all day long. A friend had a C63 and found the noise got very wearing on long journeys. If you require more advice regarding the Porsche I'd suggest you find a Porsche forum.

At a mere 54 you will be getting advice here from men old enough to be your father. But if you get the Porker, even at your age you might quickly tire of the NVH. The Merc is clearly a fine car, but highly fashionable, reflected in used prices. Have you considered the all aluminium four wheel drive Audi S8? £20k should get you a nice one.

If looking at a 15 year old Porsche you need to research, research and research.
Get on forums, ask questions, find a local specialist and go and talk to them, lots of resources on youtube. Learn about then inside out what the expensive problems are.
An issue with that age of vehicle is IMS wear. Know about it, understand it.

Ok I will look , but Ive probably got to get certain cars out of my system before I get to an age where I won’t be bothered.

If you want weekend fun for not a lot of money , I would consider the last of the BMW E46 models . A 330 coupe or cabriolet . A top notch example from 2005/6 can be bought for less than £10k . Reliable motoring and repairs don’t cost the earth. My friend had a c63 2010 model that needed a new engine because of continuing coolant loss . Not uncommon on this model .
