I never thought I would write this, but yesterday I took my sister-in-law to get a PCR test just off Portobello road, but with the wrong information had to find an alternative.

Traffic was light, and even found somewhere to Park just off westbourne grove, (waitrose) £5 an hour limited to 3 hours or free if you spend £50..

I usually hate driving in inner London, but that was a nice change.

Apparently the place is like a ghost town at the moment, sans-commuters. Out in the sticks, my guess is (round my way) that the traffic is about 75% near normal. I ventured out to the flicks in Cambridge earlier in the week - the traffic was still quite bad at around 4pm (way home). Not so bad once out of the city.

Train stations still relatively empty (the car park at mine is roughly 25% full on weekdays rather than near 100% as was, but up from 10% a month ago).

The last time I had a decent experience driving in and around London was in 2005 when I was working on the Tube and needed to do a night survey. The road were nice and empty, but then it was 11.30pm - 3am. :-)

One point I forgot to make, because traffic was lighter, combined with the 20mph zones it was easy getting out of junctions. Even the Notrh Circular was calm.

Route into Acton is J23 M24 , Barnet Bypass A!, Hendon, join N circ at brent cross, down and through Park royal and Horn lane.

went in to Portobello via A40 wood lane across to ladbroke grove then through the little streets.

Took the A40M leaving the dropped friend in acton and home. Long expensive day.

It’s because all the piles are down here in the West Country clogging the roads up. We call them piles because they come down in bunches and are a pain in the a**.

Not on the M25 this morning. Someone had the stupid idea of running loads of VWs around the M25 for charity. The resulting congestion added twenty minutes to a journey. I had absolutely no sympathy for the ones I saw broken down on the hard shoulder.
