Billet liar
I wonder if you can help. Today I received what I think is a parking fine for 70 Euros during holiday in France in July 2008 in a hired vehicle, which is obviously how they have tracked us down us. I’m not aware we did anything wrong but we must have contravened something. We didn't notice any ticket on the vehicle. Do we ignore it or, are there likely to be problems when we return so should we just pay up as its difficult to argue against given we don't know what we have done and time lapse, etc.

This is the new racket. Our continental cousins have now caught on to the fact that the Brits are suckers for paying penalties and new cross border EC legislation makes it possible to pursue Brits for these whether they are legitimate or not. Your best policy is to check with the French consulates as to whether or not the ticket is legitimate.
