Ford Focus C max 2.0 TDCI 2005 - Engine Management Light won't show - tsotsi

I've just got a Ford Focus C max 2.0 TDCI 2005 but been having trouble with it ever since I got it. The guy I bought it from seemed very dodgy, but because it was going to be a temp. car, I got it and hoped it would be okay for a few months.

The issue is that the car randomly stalls and won't rev/move, without any warning lights on the dashboard.

I just did the hidden Ford test/menu, and when it did the "LED Test" of the dashboard, all lights were working except for the engine management light, does anyone know why or how this would happen, or is it possible that the previous owner did something to switch it off?

You are probably correct . The engine warning light has been deleted by a previous owner . Usually a non working mil lamp would be an mot fail, but as your car is a pre 2008 diesel , it’s not a requirement. It will still be possible to check the engine control system through the Obd diagnostic port. From your description of the fault, this could be a fuel filter issue.

Yes as above, dodgy owner has disconnected the light. A basic £20 fault code reader plugged into the OBD2 port may help or you may need more specific Ford diagnostics such as FORScan free software with an ELM327 interface, the Ford forums will help with this. If you are not too tech savvy a Ford specialist garage or decent local garage may be the best bet.

thanks for the quick response guys!

Any idea how some can do that, or is there a way to fix it?

As for the engine issue, when it first happened (2 weeks after purchase) my local garage changed the crankshaft sensor and did a full service, it was fine for 2/3 weeks then it happened again, took it back to the garage and changed the EGR valve (used - but perfect working order apparently), but on the way home - same issue again.
