I don't think there's any substitute for a single device only for your car.

I'm currently helping a guy who used a generic reader to diagnose a fault and he was given the code "HDI SID807 BR2"

I explained that this isn't a fault code, but the part number for his ECU.

We then progressed to the code P1A9C. A quick Google told him that it related to the accumulator battery and stop-start system - two devices not even fitted to his car.

I'd like to read the injector values on my Toyota Diesel, needs reading from cold start so see what the cold through to warm values are so not just a case of popping in somewhere whilst passing, and few places other than the main dealer have the right diagnostics for Toyotas, if the readings are poor i would like to install new injectors myself, same problem, getting them coded to the ECU.

I bought a copy of techstream, but like most others can't get the thing to link to my car.

The local Diesel shop sadly isn't what it once was when it was under previous ownership in a neighbouring town, i may just have to bite the bullet and let Toyota read them for me, i doubt they are out of scope anyway but the problem here is that once they have your details the current regime at the dealership won't leave you alone, with regular requests for service work or car sales specials, so nearest main dealer is now a last resort.

GB i think you need one of these www.obdexpress.co.uk/wholesale/toyota-intelligent-...l

It’s not cheap but about equal to a couple visits to the dealer, very useful if you’re sticking with Toyota, Pity it doesn’t also have Subaru instead of Suzuki!

Or quite understandably if you don’t fancy clicking on a link from strangers, google: Denso Intelligent Tester

Thanks for that Metropolis, i shall look into it and get in touch, whilst some might think it expensive i suspect it's not expensive enough for what i expect from it, would have thought at least one decimal shift at least, but hope to be pleasantly surprised.

The name x horse doesn't inspire me with confidence though, that's one of the several makes or names of techstream which failed to work, and i know its not my car failing to link because my standard code reader finds and links to the vehicle with no issues.

I was reassured by it being a Denso product, seeing as Denso is closely linked with (and partly owned by) Toyota. I have never bought from that website though.
