I'm looking for a 2007 or later model with approx 50k mileage. I've read great reviews on both models, but I'm finding the Yaris of a similar spec to a Jazz is more expensive. Any readlson why, am I missing something I should be aware of? Looking on Auto trader btw..

I've compared using a budget of around £3k and noted this difference. I know Yaris sometimes have £30 tax models but it's not just this variation.

There's a known gearbox bearing issue on the jazz. It was the reason we traded ours in for a a yaris.

The yaris was slightly better to drive, and the satnav (optional extra) worked well. The magic seats on the jazz were wonderful.

Both are good cars. I suspect the yaris appeals slightly more to younger people.

We've now traded the yaris in for a Honda civic estate.

Nothing went wrong with the yaris in the six years we had it, but the dog was too big for the boot.

Jazz was 54 plate (2004). Yaris was 13 plate (2013).

I have just done a search on Autotrader using these criteria: 2007>, >£3k, >80k miles, 5 door (for the Yaris), no insurance write off's, and i excluded the 1.0 Yaris and 1.2 Jazz (so 1.33 Yaris vs 1.4 Jazz). The results don't support your findings with the youngest Yaris available being a 2011 and the youngest Jazz being a 2010. Furthermore, there are only two 2010 Jazz available before dropping to 2009 cars whereas, in addition to the 2011 Yaris, there are seven 2010 cars available before dropping ino 2009 models.

BTW, having just noticed your 50k mileage requirement (on a 12 year old car?), so adjusted the above, but still find the youngest Yaris is a year younger than the youngest Jazz.

Not sure about the gearbox issue, but both are known to be extremely reliable

Next time you see a Jazz or Yaris look at the driver.

Jazz falls firmly in old man/old dear territory. Not much demand from anyone under about 40 (despite them being bullet proof).

Yaris is a great car for anyone, this demand increase prices. It does make the Jazz a used bargain, but having driven both give me a Yaris,

If you will be carrying rear seat passengers often, I would choose the Jazz. The Yaris lacks rear headroom and lacks any door pockets.

The Jazz will be the better car if you're carrying a lot of luggage. All owners I come across love the magic seats.

I have a 2012 Jazz, Son has a 2012 Yaris.

Agree with the above quote 100%..Sums up in a nutshell.

And if you are lifting hevay things in/out of boot, Jazz wins hands down...

At £3k you’re right on the retail price changeover point between Mk I and Mk II Jazz with the later car better made and more reliable (the gearbox in particular) plus more valuable. This may be throwing your figures but it’s irrelevant as condition and history are far more important than partial make and model beyond ruling out any known frail models.

With any car from circa 2007 remember condition is all - there are many write off conditions they can have including structural rust!
