Dacia Stepway - Random Misfire on Brand New Car - B5301

My daughter has had her brand new 19 plate Stepway for a week and yesterday she said she had flashing management and coil light for about 15sec after she had pulled away. I plugged in my OBD and it threw out a P0300 random misfire. She took it to the dealer this morning and they said there were no fault codes and all diagnostic values were normal but just to watch it incase it happens again. I'm thinking the dealer couldn't be bothered to investigate it. Any ideas why this would happen on a brand new cat? Next step is I'll go into the dealer and kick up a fuss but to me the engine sounds and runs fine, I can't see or feel anything wrong?

If the dealer will not help you should reject the car within the first 28 days. They cannot refuse to give you a full refund with no deductions, its the law. After 28 days you have to allow them one chance to repair so if you are in any doubt about their honesty reject now.

Yeah, I was thinking that. I've checked the ODB again and they've cleared the fault code so how can I prove there was originally a fault code when they said there wasn't? It might be a case of waiting until it misfires again and taking a photo but who knows when that will be? The car seems to be running fine now?

I think you are living in cloud cuckoo land thinking you might reject this car, annoying yes but surely only a minor hiccup/fault and covered by warranty should it reoccur. Dealer seems to have put their diagnostics on your car from what you report and could not find a problem. What do you expect them to do?

I expected them to tell the truth that there was a random misfire code showing as I saw last night on my own fault reader. If it's the case it doesn't happen again then it's fine. I expected that that fault code would warrant at least an in depth inspection and not a quick 5mins on their diagnostic machine.

It is quite usual for any codes to be erased and then the vehicle restarted to see if the fault codes reappear.

As they didn't there is little more the dealer can do. Cars get system glitches.

if the misfire was short term and enough to bring the light on it should be found under fault codes and would remain until its cleared.

however if the misfire was very intermittent and it may only of been recorded in pending fault codes. If its in pending if the fault does not re-occur after 40 starts the pending fault is wiped. If the fault does not occur in a 3 cycle period it wont bring the light on unless its a component well outside of required parameters or open or short circuit

I come across many garages where they never look in pending & if the computer says no that's it.

pending faults and freeze frame data, ( Time of event and certain engine conditions) are mostly only found under EOBD easiest way to explain is to imagine the ECu in 2 halves.

My daughters brand new Yaris developed a misfire on her way home ( she said its juddering ) so stopped and called toyota assist. The computer said no so they sent her on her way.

I got home and went into EOBD instead of engine management and under pending was a fault logged as misfire detect. Cylinder 3 1670 times. So I removed the plug to find a whisker, cleaned and fault never returned

Had what I thought was a misfire on my Yaris. Found it was the rev limiter - It'll do near 80MPH in third!
