Try going to the Castrol website and entering your registration number to see which oil(s) are suitable for your car.

No listing found for mty re-reg'd car abnd I cannot remember what the old reg was.

I am not asking what is suitable, I know 5w30 is suitable, but is 5w30 for another specific make, like that ford one or the bmw/vauxhall one.

Thanks.

I'm sorry, but you are asking which one is suitable.

You get Castrol 5w30 in at least the following variations, they won't all be suitable for you car: A3/A4, A5, C2, C3, S1, LL

Go to the link I posted further up and select your car details on the left side of the screen. I would do it myself but need the year and engine size to use it.

Hi,

It says EDGE 5W-30 LL, but that is what Castrol recommends.

I am asking why can't I use any 5w30 oil, like the ones I have already mentioned?

Thanks again.

FiestaOwner is trying to help you, but you appear to have a blind spot for the fact that 5w30 is just part of the oil spec..

I suggest you try RTFM.

Agreed - there's more to oil than just the viscosity, eg 5W-30 - it's also important to have the correct grade, eg ACEA-C3.

ONLY the manual can give the correct answer - sometimes oil manufacturer's sites get it wrong!

And manufacturers tend to steer you towards their more premium products.

I'm happy to use supermarket oil in one of our older, low annual mileage cars, but I'd go for a brand for something newish or which does a high annual mileage.

Tesco's website doesn't help so the only way is to find the correct spec. from the manual and then visit the shop and read what it says on the tin.

My Kia Rio 1.5 CRDi (same base engine as OPs) runs very well on 5W30 ACEA C3. If the Tesco oil is C3 spec then you should be OK. I would also check out one of the on-line auto-factors as deals are to be had for branded oils.

Popped into a Tescos today and remembered this post. I saw three different types of synthetic 5W30 oil being promoted, two of which were C3 spec. The first was marked as for 'BMW', the second marked as 'Long Life'. Either would be fine in the OPs Hyundai diesel. The third was marked for Ford and not C3 so unsuitable. These oils are priced at £6 per 2-litre container.
