Re BMW recall, my X3 goes in next week. I expect a long wait. The dealer has warned me they have a backlog of 120 cars in the pound and no sign yet of parts coming through.

Blagging rights:

You are a man (?) after my own heart ! I fully agree about purchasing an expensive car and then inviting problems. I live on a street full of expensive cars (£40K +) and in 2016 a house was burgled, lots of jewellery stolen, owners tied up as well as car stolen (modern Porsche with expensive private plate). Now the same family have a better car and bigger gates.....some people never learn.

I could buy a very expensive car and then invite envy and risk of burglary so I stick to my 10 year old Nissan which does not even register as a car with thieves. Keep your lovely Jazz and as HJ often says it is indestructible. Don't waste your money on depreciating assets like fancy cars which often come with endless problems. Even a casual reading of these pages will inform you that MB/BMW/Mini/VW make the most hideously unreliable cars.

RR Oakham:

I am sure its a 'catergory A' pain not having your 330d, but bleeting about being given a Ford Focus hire car FOC? How does that possibly warrant a complaint?

Must admit, i’d prefer the Focus to the Mini he tried to hang on to.

Ref Personal Matter, when I receive the fairly regular calls from so called claims companies, I usually tell them to call back tomorrow as I’m not due to have my accident until later today. I usually get a few seconds of silence and can picture them trying to figure out what I’ve said, and then the call cuts off.

Nice! Chuckling at that one - I may try that approach myself next time, and in my case, it's normally around the time my car insurance is due for renewall, when I use the screenscraper websites to (hopefully - it doesn't always work) force down my current insurer on price.

Odd really, especially when I only use sites which have a facility to not get marketing emails/phonecalls or have my details passed on to third parties for marketing purposes. Obviously one or more of them aren't adhering to the GDPR rules.

Personal natter - I had a small no fault accident last May

& HJ replied with: "Just do what I do. Use an expression that begins with the same letters as ‘Foreign Office’."

Another funny option, pause and state in a frightened voice:

'Thanks for getting back to me and I did everything you said, but now there is blood everywhere'.

CLICK Works for me!

Re Total wiper-out, Not really a problem with Fords (and some VWs), the heated windscreen has cleared the ice / snow before the wipers wipe.
