Someone I know has a Nissan Leaf. Interesting that problems with range anxiety have immediately surfaced. Charged the car up for a trip from Basingstoke to Southampton and back but getting lost in Soton meant they weren’t confident about getting back so the search for a charging point began. Apparently the car helps with this. I don’t think I could live with this palaver, how would you go about a long trip? I don!t know the real distance between charging needed but I can imagine running out of battery in the middle of nowhere on a cold January night.

I read recently about someone driving their Leaf on a long journey, can't remember where but they had planned their route and charging stops along the way to make sure they always had plenty of charge. They got there Ok but it took an incredible amount of time with waiting to get plugged in and slow charging points.Hours more than a normal car, It wasn't that cheap ether.

I believe that there's another potential snag with the Leaf: if you try to charge it several times in the same journey - as you would when doing a long trip - the charging process gets slower and less efficient each time, I think due to overheating of the battery.

As with the Qashqai, Nissan have led the field but then allowed other better products to overtake. The Kia e-Niro sounds promising, although others seem to agree as there's a year-long waiting list.
