Ford Focus 2001 Hatchback 1.6 - Power Steering Fluid Leak - Simon81

Hi,

I have a power steering fluid leak and I'm pretty sure it's coming from the pressure switch, although I'm not certain as everything I've learnt about the power steering system has been in the last couple of days....

Here's a link to some photos where I could see a leak coming from. In the last two photos I've circled the little red drops that were coming out:

As far as I can tell it's not leaking from anywhere else and, although the pump and general area around it is pretty greasy, it doesn't appear to be originating from there.

Is that definitely the power steering pressure switch?

And is this the correct replacement? As it appears to match up in terms of make/model, but looks fairly different to the one in my car....

Thanks for your help!

That is the pas pressure switch and they often leak. That looks like the correct part but appearance may be different. How bad is the leak?

It's fairly constant. Fortunately, I had a bottle of power steering fluid sitting around, so can top it up for now if I need to drive it.

Is it just a case of unscrewing the old one and screwing in a new one? Or is there anything else I need to know?

Cheers.

That’s just about it . Unscrew old and fit new . Support the pipe when undoing the switch and be prepared to catch some dribbling fluid.
