Vauxhall Insignia estate 2 litre diesel 2014 - Vibration at 70 mph - wrangler_rover
I have a temporary company car, had it for 8 weeks and it vibrates heavily at 70 to 75 mph speedo indicated speed. My tomtom speed says 65 to 70 mph actual speed. I use my tomtom instead of the sat nav in the insignia because it is poor compared to the tomtom. When I got the car 8 weeks ago, it started vibrating at 70 mph, most of my mileage is on motorways so not good. 2 weeks ago, I had 2 new front tyres fitted as the tyres were down to 2mm, the tyre fitter assured me this would cure the vibration, it hasn't, if anything, the vibration is worse. As my new company car is due any day, I am not too bothered, just curious. Another symptom with the insignia is that to drive, it is the noisiest car
I have ever driven. Could this be a clue to or a symptom of the vibration? With the vibration at motorway speed, it certainly isn't a pleasant driving experience.

Perhaps the rear wheels need balancing. If they were out of balance you'd feel a vibration through the car, whereas front wheel out of balance is felt more through the steering wheel.

I will second that.

Could be a buckled wheel. I had a damaged front left and vibration was crazy from 70-75 but stopped after that.

Could be all sorts of things, wheel bearing on the way out, CV joint inner or outer nearly dry, drive shaft support bearing if fitted, even a weak engine/gearbox mount, might be interesting to swap the wheels front to back to see if the vibration changes.

Thank you for your replies.
Problem solved.
Went out for a long run today.
The vibrations seemed worse than previously.
After a while, I noticed one rear tyre pressure was falling rapidly from the dashboard tyre pressure monitor.
I pulled off the main road, noticed a rear tyre nearly flat, looked in the boot, no spare, only a compressor and tin of sealant.
Used the sealant and compressor, only inflated to 20 psi, drove to nearby garage to fully inflate the tyre, noticed the tyre sealant was pooling on the floor. Drove a mile to a tyre centre with the pressure dropping rapidly. At the tyre centre, when the wheel was removed, the tyre was delaminating. I had 2 new front tyres fitted 3 weeks earlier, I mentioned vibration, I assume the examined the rear tyres but the delamination didn't show up despite me mentioning the car was vibrating. A new tyre was fitted to the rear and the vibration problem is solved.
Important lessons learned:
Do not rely on the dashboard tyre pressure monitor, thoroughly check the tyres regularly.
Do not rely on a can do sealant and compressor (I only have this car for another 3 weeks so I will live with it)
My wife bought a 3 year old Yaris 2 weeks ago, no spare wheel, only a can of sealant and compressor. On Monday, I shall buy a spare wheel, wheel brace and jack for my wife's Yaris.

I chucked mine away after I bought the car and got a spacesaver and jack, I never recommend anyone keep that stuff, its terrible and some garages will not clean them up to replace a tyre

at least none I`ve spoken to about it.

Fairly common problem, ply seperation causes a bulge somewhere on the tyre and can even effect a well balanced trye as the shape changes with increasing speed.
