Traffic furniture has gone on apiece; direction signs are now equipped with ‘reflecting’ signs whereas they were once equipped with illuminated pillars. When I write ‘reflecting’, the signs in the centre of town are bright and clean, and reflect. The ones on the A6 on pedestrian refuges are covered with traffic dirt and don’t reflect. Those near Lyme Park are so dirty that they are best seen in silhouette as they get in the way of the beams of the headlights of oncoming vehicles. It would be simple to wash them with a jet of water every so often. Perhaps the Highway Authority will think why they have to replace the signs so often as they are run over by vehicles the drivers of which don’t have the benefit of the headlights of oncoming vehicles.
