Volvo C30 1.6 petrol - Car starting but no electrics - Sailor67
Hi,
A fault with the normally reliable c30. It started but no electrical power, lights, indicators not working. Driven back home, then started it again with same key and all appears okay.
Do I have a faulty ignition lock or failing relay somewhere? Car battery is original 8.5 yrs old.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I would defo get the battery tested.A low voltage during cranking can cause some of the electrics to shut down.

Thanks for your note. By doing that first I can eliminate any doubt, must be at the end of its life anyway.

Have a look at the CEM (Central Electrical Module) which is the white unit with fuses under the glovebox.

Ideally, unplug all the wiring and take it right out and give the connections a good clean with contact cleaner. Put it back in and make sure all the connector blocks are seated properly.

A common problem on C30/S40/V50 which causes CAN bus errors and sometimes makes the car cut out. A failing battery can also cause odd errors as per suggestions above.

You have my sympathy, I had mk2 s40 (essentially the same car). I had loads of electronic gremlins. Mine was so bad I bought a dedicated Volvo bbr ppc code reader. This sorted out many electrical faults. I'd have spent a fortune without it. I don't know if a generic code reader will work as well.

In short term AA man showed me clearing fault codes by disconnecting battery negative lead and with a screw driver or similar connect -ve lead to +ve terminal. May be worth a try if it happens again. Soecific Volvo forum I found very helpful.

Hi Sailor , I have similar problems with Volvo C30 , it engine shuts down while driving and I can start it after 2 minutes . Did you solve your car problem.
