Unions and Ford's lack of understanding of what the public wanted has resulted in the end of one of the motor industry's most iconic battles. In an unusual coincidence October 7th is the Friday before Australia's greatest motor race, the Bathurst 1000, an event that over the decades helped establish both the reputations of both Ford and Holden. Meanwhile, production of the Holden Commodore continues until late 2017.

Listen to a review of one of the greatest V8 sports sedans Australia has ever produced. Staggering value, and what a wonderful sound, a shame Dr David Bailley didn't live the hear it. The Holden Commodore SSV Redline.

Sorry to see the Falcon go. I have been running a Falcon station wagon for eleven years now. Big, strong, spacious. I converted it to LP gas and it is as cheap to run as a little hatchback and much more comfortable for long country trips. The 4 litre engine is a gem. DOHC with a timing chain. Lots of power for overtaking or for towing. It isn't modern or sophisticated. It doesn't have DSG, DMF or touch screen. No Bluetooth either. I don't miss any of those. It is cheap to run, cheap to repair and will swallow crates of junk, suitcases, paving slabs, the dog and a box of stuff for him. I would buy another Falcon station wagon tomorrow but they stopped making them 5 years ago and now they have stopped the sedan.

A friend in Brisbane has the estate and his son a slightly modified saloon. The saloon is great fun to drive with masses of torque. Did wonder if it would fit in my Zodiac? :)
