Honda Jazz CVT 7 2006 model - Car "stutters" whilst driving around town - alanmikey
Hi,
My Honda Jazz has been fantastic except on occasion it seems to "stutter" whilst driving around town as though the fuel has been restricted. This only lasts for a fraction of a second and is completely intermitent, no problems on motorways. I have had the car thorougly checked over but no problems detected. The car has done 50,000 miles and the plugs were changed at
30, 000 miles. Your help would be much appreciated as no one seems to know why.

Have you FULLY observed the oil change service schedules?
As in not missed out oil/filter changes?
Reason I'm asking is the CVT refers to camshaft variable timing which is to say there's a doodad on your engine that alters cam timing using oil.
And if you have missed a few oil changes it get blocked or restricted and doesn't respond as designed.
That would be my guess.
Great engines Honda's but miss out oil changes or put the wrong oil in and..............................

Thank you for your feedback. Car has always had regular servicing and oil changes, it has just had one! The garage has mentioned the timing issue but not related to oil changes. If it continues is there anything I can do to overcome this problem? I wonder why it only happens around town and not on long runs? Thanks again

As above the EGR is easier to check clean but if it is the CVT then that to could be cleaned.

Hi Guys,

To Hardway :No offence but I have to say that the above statement is utter nonsense.People should think and check first before posting anything. CVT stands fo Continuously Variable Transmission and has nothing to do with variable timing which by the way is not implemented on jazz. The problem here is a slipping clutch inside the transmission which unfortunately is a very bad sign. It will get worse and finaly with render it useles. It is mostly due to lack of oil change in transmission

My error,

Shold have checked the data first,

they're all single cam.

I jumped to a conclusion as just about every Honda I see has oil problems due to lack of servicing,

They're just too reliable.

Bonnets only opened when the screen wash runs out.

It's not uncommon to have a coil pack fail on these (from your description I'd say this is a likely cause) but there's a number of different possibilities. EGR, a knackered plug or leads, fuel filter that's never been changed, failing fuel pump, restriction in exhaust (cat breaking up) CVT transmission oil changes not been carried out on schedule (think it's every 25k) etc etc. It needs properly diagnosed by someone who knows what they're doing.
