What type of person spits out their gum in a car park?

I picked up a lump on my heel without realising until I found my foot was sticking to the mat, by which time it was well ground in.

I've googled the methods and nothing seems to be working very well. I put the mat in the freezer overnight, but the gum still remained soft. I've tried white spirit, meths, cellulose thinners, WD40 (I was getting desperate) and CIF. The WD40 seemed to work a little, but still didn't remove it all.

I don't know what sort of gum it is. It's pink, but doesn't have any odour.

Any suggestions welcome.

When I drove coaches for a while, the little darlings used to put gum in the ashtrays and pretty much everywhere else. The company used to buy some gum remover in aerosol cans that worked to some extent. I can't remember what it was called as it was about 20 years ago.

The Persil website has some suggestions on removing gum.

Pressure washer might do the trick.

I've used "Jelsol" chewing gum remover before, thought it was a good product.

Think its in the Autosmart valeting range.

If all these tips fail--why not give your car a birthday and buy some new mats.Google or try SimplyCarMats co.uk. Full set of 4 for an average £27/£28. Bought some for my Audi last year-they were fine

  1. Freeze it off! Place an ice cube in a resealable plastic bag on top of the chewing gum.

  2. Be gentle – tugging or scraping with a sharp object could damage the surface.

  3. Remove leftover stains with a mixture of warm water and a soap or liquid laundry detergent.

Repeated freezing, scraping, WD40 seems to have removed enough to make the mat usable again, but it ain't half thin in the affected area.

Found some on ebay for seventeen quid, they'll do.

Next time I see someone drop gum, I'll feel like rubbing their face in it!

I knew one bloke who went to Halfords ,bought some "any old" cheapo cheapo large'sh car mats , used his old ones as a t/plate then used a Stanley Knife and a drill (for holes) to match what he had before.
