Peugeot 307 SW - timing belt failed withinwarranty dealer won't pay - john1704

New to this site I would really appreciate some advice if possible. Basically I have had a lot of problems with this used car since I bought it but it's now heading to court..on the way to taking my car to the dealer to have the dodgy lights looked at the timing belt failed and the dealer won't pay to have it fixed as the timing belt is a seviceable item?what does this mean?the car was sold to me with the description of being serviced at 90,000 miles which I have never had proof of..and the timing belt life is 100,000 miles I don't know where I would get with going to court maybe my money back for the car not being sold as described but then having to pay for repairs needed for timing belt failure?the car was taking to the dealer under within a 3 month warranty..do I get the repairs done myself as I won't get anywhere with the timing belt situation or do I take it to court??help!!

A few points.

When you write all as one long paragraph, it makes it difficult to read. That doesn't mean you need to put every sentence as a paragraph, but it does help.

Next : too little information. How old is the car. Roughly how much did you pay for it. When (exactly) did you buy it. How much mileage have you dont in the time you've had it.

The reasons all these are needed is that consumer law, to a large extent, comes down to 'reasonable expectations'. Yes, the Consumer Rights Act is now there, and codifies a lot of case law. But at the heart of it all is what is reasonable.

For example, if it's a 5 year old car, and you paid £3k for it 3 months ago, then you can expect a lot more reliability than a 10 year old car that you paid £600 for.

As the 307SW went out of production in 2008, that means that this car is at least 8 years old. So the above information is pretty essential, otherwise we're just guessing.

Hi there..thanks for pointing out those things.

I bought the car on November 1st last year for £2000 and it is an 07 plate. I had done roughly 1300 miles in the ten weeks i had the the car before it completely broke down and most of those miles were going back and for to the car dealer for numerous other problems.
