Suzuki Grand Vitara DDIS 2007 - Cambelt change - Kimberley

My GV is due a cambelt change soon, it was changed by the previous owner at 29000. I am advised by the dealer that it is due for a change at 74000 (the recommended interval is 45000). Suzuki offer two options one with and one without pulley change. It has been used for occasional caravan towing otherwise normal road use. Which option do you think that I should go for?

It depends on the additional cost, really, and whether you can afford it.

However, do bear in mind that, if you don't get it done and IF the pulley fails, the engine will be wrecked, at a cost of thousands to fix.

So, can you afford to take the gamble ? Only you can answer that

I would never get a cambelt changed without getting everything else changed that the cambelt runs on. This would include tensioner and pulleys and, depending on the vehicle concerned, could also include the water pump.

Not worth taking the chance. On some engines, e.g. Ford, the belt rarely fails; it's always the pulleys or tensioner.

I totally agree better a few pounds now, than a major failure and maybe a new head or worse later.
