Anybody used the Aviva or LV Driving apps, and if so, have you achieved any reduction in your premiums as a result?

Never used one, but I have read some interesting reports from young drivers who live out in the wilds of the UK and have them fitted.

In particular people living on Scottish Islands where most roads are very quiet and have a 60mph limit.

The system records the driving speeds which is way off what is deemed 'normal' and throws a wobbly. This results in letters to the policy holder warning them about their driving!

Tried the trial version of the Aviva app over 500 miles, it didn't like me for accelerating away from the M4 severn bridge toll.

I tried one for a few days on my route up and down the Fosse Way to work through Warwickshire. I was getting a good score for a few days but on th efourth day I performed 3 or 4 full power overtakes past some slow lorries. It didn't like that. It seemed to think that accelerating quickly equals dangerous. Well, wat's the point of having a 260hp Saab if I can't use the power now and again - overtaking is its forte!! Ditched it after that.

I used the aviva app and scored a 9.7 out of 10 so a good score yet when I got the quote the premium was nearly £300 more than what I was paying so how can they say that I'm a good driver yet charge an absurd amount for insurance?

That's Aviva for you. A few years ago my car was stolen from our driveway, and Aviva wouldn't believe me until a few weeks late when the police (who were excellent throughout) recovered the car 100 miles away. I've lectured on fraud for many years, so I'm hardly likely to recommend an outfit which effectively accused me of it.

Maybe they're paying too much for their TV ads and not enough to provide decent quality staff/backup with the time and ability to do the work.

To be honest insurance in this country has been woeful for years, sadly now mirrored in much of society where customer service/care is very low down on the pecking order. Its amazing how often when dealing with insurers that you have to speak to a 'supervisor' (effectively someone with actual underwriting or claims experience, not some Joe who used to work in Tesco or answering the phone in an office who follows computer instructions).

unless there is a specific benefit / need the question has to be why? it's like have a dashcam and recording your speed ... somome is bound to look at a recording and one day will cry out 'speeding', even if you are not!
