Jaguar XE Sportbrake - Steering wobble - docajac

Just bought a 2.2 D (200PS) which had done 12K, from main dealer.Felt steering vibrations during test drive, and they checked tyre pressures and balancing.Still feel a bit shuddery at 65-75 mph speeds.

What should I do next?

Does wheel balancing help?

Jaguar XE Sportbrake - Steering wobble - focussed

Err- take it back to the main dealer and drink their free coffee while they balance the wheels?

Jaguar XE Sportbrake - Steering wobble - gordonbennet

If its not wheel balance and they try to fob you off, perish the thought, you'll have to take one of their number with you and show them.

This isn't cold spots on the tyres developing overnight now its cold is it?, if so you should be able to feel it at all speeds till the tyres warm up and the flat spots round off, after anything from 1 to 5 or so miles, had a set of Goodyear F1's that were terrible for this.

Its fine in cold morning trips.

Typically starts by 65 mph, whether its cold or warm tyres.

They said they checked the balancing.

Do main dealers do alignment or should I try KwikFit like tyre specialists?

Jaguar XE Sportbrake - Steering wobble - gordonbennet

Its their problem, end of.

I wouldn't be going to Kwik Fit nor any other fast fit joint, this is the supplying dealers problem to put right, anyone else touching the car muddies the water and gives the dealer someone to point the finger at.

If its not the tyres, it could be the wheels, drive shaft, prop shaft, wheel hub (even if unlikely), its still down to them to sort it whatever it is, if they can't then maybe they'd better refund you.

I bought it from a dealer 100 miles away.I made a roundtrip to them yesterday,to fix the issue ie within 2 days of delivery to my home.

Its only 18 months old.

Would the local dealer do it under warranty, as I bought a used car from elsewhere?

Sorry to be naive, this is the first time I've encountered this kind of problem.

I've emailed the saleman, but he is keeping quiet now.

Is there a refund policy for used cars?

Jaguar XE Sportbrake - Steering wobble - Railroad.

If your car develops a fault the dealer has a legal obligation to refund your money in full if you so wish, as long as you return the car within 30 days of purchase. The dealer is also required to make repairs free of charge to you for up to 6 months after the purchase date. This does not apply to vehicles bought or sold privately.

The OP has been unlucky, but reinforces my view that buying from a significant distance away is not ideal if problems occur.

As GB said, root cause could be any of a number of things, so could take time to fix; if the dealer doesn't lend you a courtesy car you if they need to keep it to investigate you are 100 miles from home.

Better to try and reject it and find another one.

Rob JP wrote this about the QX30 thread:

The QX30 had it's worldwide 'reveal' at Frankfurt in September 2015.

So, considering the QX30 hasn't been released for sale in any market worldwide as yet, the OP is either :

Wrong about what car they've got

Or

Lying and spamming some crap for some other reason

or a third alternative ...

a journalist, who has one on loan for magazine testing or the suchlike, but is incapable of actually RTFM or of contacting Infiniti to ask them.

I wonder if this applies here, not least because there is no such car as a Jaguar XE Sportbrake on general sale. And look at how basic some of the questions are..... like taking a brand new car to Kwik Fit, lol!!!! Buy a new pair of shoes and they fall apart in a week... do you take them to your dentist... no, you take them back to where you bought them!!!! Even my wife gets that logic!!!

Option 3 is unlikely - afaik there aren't even any engineering prototype XE SBs in existance!!!

A deformed tyre of bent alloy may be the cause of this problem Very carfull inspection is required. Regards Peter

I tend to agree with a deformed tyre, they could try swapping front to rear wheels and see if that cures it.

Thank you all for your thoughts.

The dealer,100 miles away, from whom I purchased, will liaise with my local Jag dealer to check it again.

Will keep posted
