Yes.

Having a quick google on this suggests it's not a straight yes or no. For example you can't borrow someone else's trade plates. More detail from the OP would help but with respect to my fellow backroomers if it were my query I'd want to check my particular circumstances against the relevant official guidance. It's stating the obvious but If you are stopped or picked up on camera and it turns out you are not covered, saying you checked on social media won't take you very far.

Short answer is yes, of course you can, as long as the trade plates are being used correctly.

That's correct - they can't ever be used for private purposes.

I do hope this helps, Jeff. I would hate to think of you being up again at 3.09 am worrying about trade plates.

Sleep well!

As far as I am aware, if the trader is the Registered Keeper of the car then the car cannot be driven on their Trade Plates if they have SORN'd it.

If it has been bought as a Transfer to Trade basis using the Yellow section of the V5 then it can be driven on the trader's Trade Plates.

There was a case reported a couple of years ago when a trader was convicted of a Trade Plate offence under the former situation.

You can't use trade plates on a car which is permanently in your posession unless you are a manufacturer.

However, if you are a trader who has owned a car or maybe been a demo and you SORN it with the intention of selling it then it is no longer a car which is intended to be in your permanent posession and you can then use them strictly for trade related activities related to that sale.
