Golf Bluemotion automatic
I've just taken delivery of a 1.6 Golf Bluemotion automatic as a company car. As I've driven countless automatics over the last 30 years I didn't anticipate the problems I'd encounter with the stop start technology. I actually called out the RAC on the first morning as was unable to depress the brake in order to start, when the RAC chap arrived he was astounded that when the car was delivered the supplier hadn't seen fit to give any instruction - the manual is not exactly an example of clarity so your help/advice would be appreciated. All I want is a simple explanation as to how this works - I live and park the car on a hill, this has never been an issue with previous cars but starting this car I feel extremely nervous and not in control. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced similar problems?

Left foot on footbrake. Gearshift in P. Start the engine. Keeping left foot on parking brake move the lever from P through N to D. Then take your foot off the parking brake and raise the revs slightly as you slowly release the hand brake. It it has an electric parking brake you simply release it and increase revs and the hillholder should stop you rolling back.
