I sometimes drive my own car for work purposes - should I insure it for business use or commuting?
I work most days in one office, which I commute to by bicycle or public transport. However, sometimes I go to see clients, usually at their home. If I travel to see them in my car (it’s not a company car), am I using my car for business purposes or am I just commuting? I receive expenses from my employer in pence per mile for these trips; these costs are not re-charged to the client.

You are using your car for the use of your company's business. As such, you should insure it for that purpose. Ask your employer to provide proof of cover for the use of your vehicle whilst in company employment. If they do, you are fine and do not need to notify your insurer because you have cover in place. If they cannot, you need to either insure it for business use or insist your company hire a vehicle for your use.
