I recently bought a used Citroen C4 with an engine management fault. Should the dealer repair it?

I bought a 2007 Citroen C4 SX HDI automatic on 22 April 2010 for £10,495. Within the first week it was signalling that the engine management system was faulty. The garage agreed to have the car inspected by an ex-Citroen franchise dealer who identified several faults. I was instructed to present the car at this garage for repair. This I did and faults were rectified. Within two days it was again identifying engine system faulty. I was again told to take it back to the garage. I did this and the garage told me it has an intermittent fault which they are unable to identify. Should I expect that this problem be resolved?

The problem should be resolved or it could make the car difficult to sell in future. You have additional protection under consumer legislation within the first six months after purchase so you should be seeking to resolve this quickly. My own inclination would be to say that if they cannot fix it you should be talking to the supplier garage about exchanging the vehicle for something else of equivalent value on their stock list.
